Message from Akua Manfo
Greeting, and Happy New Year!
In 1995, I made a life-changing decision to leave UK and Sankofa to Ghana. Since then, I have been fortuate to be recognised as one of the pioneers in promoting Ghanaian arts, artistes, culture, tourism, and Diaspora relations. I was a pacesetter in multiple areas; for example, long before it become the global trend it now is, I was passionate about showcasing African print, use of shea butter and black soap, encouraging people to visit or relocate to Ghana, promoting Ghanaian music to a global audience, and more. I led the way and the name Blakofe was associated with creativity, groundbreaking ideas, linking people, getting things done, and everything Ghanaian arts, culture and tourism!
Throughout my journey, I built a succesful career in the media, spanning over 20 years across TV, radio, events and advertising. This diverse career gave me the platform to share the beauty and richness of Ghana with the world; for example through the shows I presented on TV (GoldBlast, TV3, 1996; Talking Drum, TV3, 1998; Studio 53, MNet 2005; Amazing Ghana, Studio One, 2008; ArtsWorld, Aljazeera, 2009, and Morning Ride, Metro TV, 2014) and events I hosted in London and Liberia, I showed the world places such as Cape Coast Slave Dungeon, the nightlife in Accra, and who is who in the Ghanaian entertainment as I interviewed the hottest artistes of that era.
In 2017, I was honoured to be appointed by President Akufo-Addo as the Deputy CEO of Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC). However, in 2018, I made the decision to resign on principle. I believe in integrity, accountability and tranparency; values that I couldn't compromise on, even within the complexities of Ghanaian politics. Unfortuately, my resignation led to some unsettling experiences, including a fellow appointee ordering a policeman to pull a gun on me. If you understand African politics, you will undertand the tensions that often arise in such environments and situations. For my peace of mind, I chose what I call self-imposed exile, stepping away for a while to regain balance and reflect.

I gave Ghana my all - honesty, creativity, and passion. My dedication to promoting Ghanaian arts, culture, and tourism was unwavering, and I poured everything into my work. However, leaving my efforts behind to start anew in the UK meant that I wasn't in Ghana to receive the recognition, appreciation, or financial rewards I had worked for over the years, especially for the 2019 Year of Return. I also didn't have the chance to be around for the Full Circle Festival, an iniative that was birthed when I introduced Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari-Parker to President Mahama in 2009.
On the positive side, these years away from Ghana gave me the opportunity to travel and make more contacts around the world. I also used the time to write three African history and culture books and six autobiographies as a ghostwriter.
Despite being denied my rightful in Ghana between 2018 and 2024, I remain proud of the work I contributed and the foundation I helped lay for future efforts. The passion that drove me continues to fuel my journey. After 6 years, I am back and ready to continue contributing to the growth and promotion of Ghana and Africa in ways that align with my values. My mission remains on honesty, smart work, and ensuring that African culture continues to thrive on the global stage.
As I return to Ghana with KoFeBean Consultancy, I am filled with optimism and enthusiam. With KoFeBean Consultancy, I am not only looking forward to doing what I did in the past - TV, radio, events, tours, linking people, Diapora relations, cultural facilitation, artiste management, and more - but also helping others realise their true potential and unlock new opportunities, both in Ghana and across Africa. Here's to new beginnings, fresh opportunities, and a future full of promise. Cheers!

Some random photos from Akua's archives in Ghana,1995 - 2019
Before Akua chose peace of mind by going on self-imposed exile, she was a force to be reckoned with. Her impact was felt across TV, radio, events, tours, advertising, conceptualisation, VIP chaperone, linking people, Diaspora relations, and setting the pace in African fashion. Akua's work paved the way for many creatives in Ghana today. Now, with KoFeBean, Akua is back, ready to continue where she left off.
